About University of Southern Denmark

The University of Southern Denmark’s accessibility priorities

The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is a high-quality research facility, that contributes to new technology and better health for society. It conducts world class research, and is one of the top fifty young universities in the world. Graduates of the University of Southern Denmark impact virtually every profession in the international community. SDU has five campuses, 115 different study programs, 27,000 students and more than 3,800 employees.

SDU were undertaking a brand refresh in 2016, in order to ‘clean up’ their visual identity. However, all digital assets and branded document templates were stored on an intranet, which made it difficult for staff to distribute and update them from different institutes of the university. To improve communication both internally and externally, they needed a more futureproof system.

Solution

How the Southern University of Denmark provides accessibility

SDU’s document templates were previously only accessible through an intranet. Changing to a template management system meant that there was a centralized location where assets and templates were updated and available, across locations, centers, departments and research units. All SDU staff, faculty and students now have access to up-to-date presentation templates and assets, whichever institute they are in.

Mikkel Larris, Graphic Designer in the SDU Communications Department, explains the ease now, as when he is asked to supply templates or images, he can simply direct people to open Office applications and use Templafy to access all the images and templates that he has created. This saves him from double-work. Templafy also integrates with the DAM system SDU use, making it easier for staff to find company-approved images for use.

SDU employees are now creating content which is increasingly on-brand, and used consistently. Staff can easily access the correct templates for consistently recording meeting minutes, for example, ensuring that the brand is strong across all communication. Teams are working in a smarter manner, and are more engaged with brand assets.

With Templafy installed on all university computers, both Macs and PCs, more people use on-brand templates and images. It’s easy for everyone to find the templates and digital assets they need. Now, there’s no excuse for going off-brand. People are more engaged with the templates we actually have, which means our teams are staying on-brand and working in a smarter manner. For example, our meeting minutes are now recorded consistently, because everyone uses the same template.
